Chinese Cupping Therapy
Chinese cupping therapy refers to an ancient chinese practice in which a glass cup is applied to the skin after the oxygen in the cup has been removed. When the cup is applied to the body, the skin is "sucked" up into the cup which brings blood to tight muscles. The cup may be moved back and forth in a massaging motion or left in place to alleviate tight muscles. Through several thousand years of clinical experience, the therapeutic applications of cupping have been documented. By creating suction and negative pressure, cupping is used to:
- drain excess fluid and toxins
- loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue
- bring blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles
- stimulate the peripheral nervous system
